It’s Time to Start Training!!
February is upon us and the triathlon racing season is fast approaching! It’s the time of year when you start looking at the race calendar and decide which races you want to participate in this season. The time to start some form of a structured training program is now, as I believe it’s necessary to have 16-20 weeks of solid training under your belt before your first big race of the year. You know the saying; “unsuccessful people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan”. There are many good as well as bad training programs available via the internet, magazines and books. It’s essential you find the program which is going to benefit you and take into account your individual needs. Keep in mind there’s not one training program out there that’s going to benefit everyone due to various reasons including genetics, gender, age, health, current fitness level and experience. However, if you are new to the sport of triathlon and have been sedentary for a number of years, than you will benefit from most programs that includes consistent and constructive workouts. If you want to be more competitive and improve your performance over previous years, a specific training program customized to your individual strengths and weaknesses is what you need. Finding a knowledgeable coach with an understanding of exercise physiology and experience coaching multi-sport athletes is instrumental to your success.
