I have worked with Matt since 2009 and couldn’t be more pleased with my progress.  Through Matt’s oversight and attention to detail, I’ve been able to achieve personal bests at Olympic, half Ironman, and full Ironman triathlons.  In addition, Matt has me running faster than I ever have in my life–recently PR-ing at the marathon distance (3:09:27).  As a “masters” athlete, this is gratifying.

 

I have a demanding job and family commitments, which Matt is cognizant of, and helps me work around.  Matt doesn’t use a “one-size fits all” program.  Rather, Matt tailors his training programs to the individual’s current athletic abilities, athletic potential, outside commitments, and goals.  This “all-inclusive” approach helps make the training process less stressful and more rewarding.

 

Matt’s program provides thoughtful, well-articulated, daily workouts to follow.  The training plan is then altered every four weeks based upon progress.  I found this format to be quite effective.  Throughout my years of training with Matt, I’ve found him to be very accessible via email and telephone to answer questions, discuss workouts, and talk training/racing strategy.  I highly recommend hiring Matt as a coach to help you achieve your athletic aspirations!

I started working with Matt after seeing him get some really good results with the athletes he was coaching, who just happened to be my competition. I highly recommend Matt as a coach; as he is very flexible and individualized in his coaching. While training for a full IM, I became injured and was unable to run. Matt adapted my training which lead to a first place overall finish at the RedMan Triathlon in the Full IM aqua-bike division. Matt is affordable, approachable and overall a good guy to have in your corner whether your training for your first sprint or have several Ironman races under your belt.

I started doing triathlons in 2005. I had a competitive running background, and decided to do something a little different. I did a few short triathlons, and competed in my first Half-Ironman race in 2006. It was in early 2007 when I started training with Matt and my 1/2 IM time improved by 30 minutes! Since then I have competed in eight 1/2 IM’s and have qualified for the 70.3 World Championships twice.

This next season, 2010, I will be competing in my first full IM race at IM Wisconsin. I attribute my success to the structure of Matt’s training program and extensive knowledge and experience in the sport. He is always readily accessible being just an email or phone call away should I have a question. I will definitely continue to use Matt as my coach and look forward to the 2010 season and beyond!

Matt’s coaching is exactly what I needed to take my training to the next level. I’ve been working with Matt for two seasons and I couldn’t be happier with my results. For my 2nd Ironman I decided to hire Matt – and I couldn’t be more happy with my decision. I can’t remember the first time I saw an Ironman triathlete on television but I have always held them to a “god” like standard. I knew that if I could swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles, there would not be much I could not do. When the time came to set my sights on accomplishing this monumental goal, I knew that I could not do it alone.

Matt’s guidance through my entire training process was one of the main reasons I was able to finish the Ironman. Through 8 months of training, I never had any doubt Matt was leading me in the right direction. He took all the guess work out of training. His workouts were very detailed and he was always there with kind words of advice and encouragement.

Matt made my dream come true. Four ironman races with 2 – 2nd place finishes along with 2 – 1st place finishes on two half-ironman races with a PR of 4:55, wow! Not to mention, he trained and helped me qualify for the Boston Marathon.

I’ve been doing tri’s now for about 5 years, gradually working my way up through the distances and getting past several 70.3’s and then finally my first Ironman in 2008. My coaching to that point had been mostly out of whatever books I could find. I decided to give Matt a try and see what had been missing with my self-coaching. The difference was dramatic. Not only was my overall training much more disciplined, but he helped me focus on both race nutrition and the mental side of the sport.

I went into my 2009 Ironman race far better prepared than my 2008 race, and it showed. All areas of my performance were improved for a 2hr 17minute improvement in total time. This past year I have taken the sport of triathlon a lot more serious.  One of the best things I did was hire Matt as my coach.  With his knowledge and guidance, I am performing at levels I never thought I would reach.  I have gained over 2 mph on my bike, and have improved my half marathon by over 4 minutes.  What I enjoyed most is Matt’s understanding of how to structure my workouts so I get the most out of them with the time I have available to train.  I no longer worry about what intensity or duration my training should be done at, as Matt provides all the details for me.

I cannot say enough good things about Matt. After competing in Olympic distance triathlons for 3 years, I wanted to try a longer distance. Several of my peers recommended Matt so I gave him a call. Within a couple of weeks of my initial phone call, I had a written, easy-to-understand plan for my first half iron distance triathlon. ne of the great things about Matt’s plan was that it set weekly goals in all three disciplines but gave me the flexibility to fit them into my schedule. Matt doesn’t just give you a cookie-cutter plan. He had me complete an in-depth survey that included previous race times and goals. I always felt Matt was available whenever I had questions or concerns and that he really cared about how my training was going. Going into my goal race, I was confident that I was ready because I had done the work that Matt had prescribed. It all paid off with a fantastic race. When I decided to take on the Kansas Ironman 70.3, I knew it would be best to have a coach to push, drag or kick me along. Working full-time and, starting in the winter is enough to make you not want to workout everyday. I hired Matt to be my coach after a recommendation from a member of our local triathlon club. Six months later, I completed the Kansas 70.3. In fact, that entire year, I completed 4 triathlons and an adventure race! My success was, in large part, due to Matt’s coaching ability.
